Overview

Come to Ecuador Travel has selected several amazing Amazon tours, where you will have the chance to enjoy and discover the beauty of the rainforest in different ways. One option that we offer is the Tena/Misahualli area which is located 4 hours from Quito into the Napo Province area. This tour is a great option if you have a short time and if you want to have a nice first amazon experience. It is a mixture of wildlife, secondary forest walk, culture, and local food tasting. This is not a deep jungle and pristine area like Cuyabeno but or selected lodges are located in a great location to provide a more natural journey.

Itinerary

Day 1: WELCOME TO THE AMAZON - TUBBING
12:00 Start of the tour to Itamandi Ecolodge.

From the city of Tena; we go to the Arajuno River Bridge (45 minutes approx.) to take a motorized canoe upstream for 20 minutes until we reach Itamandi. During the journey, you can see the magic and beauty of the Amazon jungle. At the dock, the lodge staff will welcome you and brief information about your accommodation and activities. (Approximate hours)

13:30 Lunch.

15:00 Tubbing.

After having tasted a delicious meal and being comfortable; You will prepare for our first activity in the Amazon jungle.

18:30 Night Walk (optional).
A flashlight and camera are the most important tools on this night excursion, which allows guests to hear and catch the night sounds of shing bats, owls, some insects, tarantulas, toads, frogs and possibly snakes. If the sky is clear, we could have the opportunity to observe a large number of stars.

19:30 Dinner
Day 2: FOREST WALK AND LOCAL BASED COMMUNITY VISIT
7:00 - 8:30 Breakfast.

9:00 or 9:30 Departure for a long walk.

After breakfast, we go on a walk through the primary and secondary forest. This activity lasts about 21⁄2 to 3 hours.

13:00 Lunch.

14:30 Visit to the community.

In the afternoon it is time to enjoy a cultural activity. An Amazonian Kichwa community will receive us and you will learn about their way of life and the interaction they have with the forest. In this meeting, that part of the Amazon that is not found on the maps. the Amazonian peoples in their daily lives. Part of our visit to the community is to share the famous "chicha", a fermented cassava drink that has become part of their parties and daily consumption. You will participate in the preparation of this drink and try some of the traditional dishes. We will end the visit with a traditional dance performed by the children of the community and you will also have time to buy some handicrafts made by the natives of the area. This small business is very helpful to support the daily life of the indigenous peoples of the area.

Day 3: ANACONDA ISLAND AND AMAZOONICO CENTER
8:00 Breakfast.

9:00 AM Amazon and Anaconda Island.

We take the canoe for about 40 minutes to visit the "Anaconda Island". We can observe the prehistoric bird "Hoatzin", woolly monkeys, squirrel monkeys, just to mention a few. We also visited a family in one of the indigenous communities to learn about their cultivation habits, medicinal plants, as well as the ancestral form of hunting with blowguns and handmade traps in the forest. A delicious box lunch will be provided on this trip.

After lunch, you will go to the Amazon, which is protecting a number of different animals, some endangered. Amazónico is not a zoo, but a rescue center for Amazon animals in Ecuador. We can observe some animals in their natural environment at close range. After that, we will return to Itamandi EcoLodge to enjoy
the hotel facilities.

19:30 Dinner.
Day 4: PARROT SALADERO
5:45 - 6:00 Departure to Saladero (according to the weather).

Early in the morning, we take a 15-minute canoe ride upstream to visit the Parrot Saladero and appreciate a unique place where parrots and parakeets gather in order to obtain the minerals that will help them digest the fruits or seeds that have consumed Hundreds of parrots and parakeets will approach the treetops and then go down to the clay wall to eat this mineral-rich land. It is essential to have some binoculars to enjoy this magnificent natural act.

7:00 - 8:30 Breakfast.

9:00 Departure and motorized canoe ride for 20 minutes to the Arajuno bridge.

End of the tour.

Travel Tips for the Amazon
If you have already decided to visit us, here are a packing list and some recommendations to help you get ready:

- Passport.
- Binoculars.
- Headlamp / Flashlight and batteries.
- Insect repellent (if possible not chemical).
- Sun protection (sun cream / sunglasses / hat or cap).
- Water bottle.
- Lightweight long pants and long-sleeved shirts for walks
- Shorts, short sleeve shirts and bathing suit for the lodge.

About the Lodge
The lodging at Itamandi EcoLodge was carefully planned to offer comfort to the traveler, yet preserve the environment and ambiance. The outline of the structure was designed with the intermingling trees of the rainforest in mind, and its outreaching, multiple branches. In addition, the lodge feels authentic, airy and comfortable. Itamandi EcoLodge consists of 19 private rooms of varying sleeping configurations and several public gathering spots, including the spacious dining room, an open-air combined bar, a majestic pool, and an observation tower.

The Restaurant offers a wide variety of dishes with a national and international touch. All meals are made with fresh, local ingredients, buffet service for breakfast and lunch, and table service for dinner. Itamandi EcoLodge can gather to special diet needs as to vegetarian meals upon request.

The lodge bartender will prepare you some of the best drinks or cocktails we offer at our open-air bar. Enjoy a drink at night overlooking the river and the pool!

A raised and roofed boardwalk connects all of the guests lodgings to the several large communal areas at Itamandi EcoLodge.
How to get there?
From Tena:

Take the road to Puerto Napo Cross the bridge over the Napo River Directly after the bridge, turn left.
Follow the paved road until you reach an intersection, called “Zancudo” for about 25km. Continue straight, DO NOT turn left, for 5 km until you reach the bridge over the Arajuno River.

Itamandi Ecolodge by public bus (approx. 5 hours):
Several public transportation companies operate the stretch from Quito or Baños to Tena. The journey will take approximately 5 hours, travelling over partially paved and unpaved roads. In Tena, you either take another public bus (“Jumandy” or Centinela”) to the Arajuno Bridge, where we meet you. Or we can arrange a private transfer from Tena to our meeting point at an additional cost.
