If you are looking for a natural, pristine area and exploration program we offer Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve. We guarantee a very unique experience at this place since it is located in a remote area surrounded by primary forest. Cuyabeno is one of the hot spots and most biodiverse places in the world so you will be able to spot different types of flora and fauna such us: different species of monkeys, birds, snakes, and depending on different conditions pink dolphins. You need to get Lago Agrio from Quito and then go to Cuyabeno to start your way inside the reserve in a canoe.

Itinerary

Day 1: ARRIVAL TO CUYABENO - LAGUNA GRANDE SUNSET
In the morning the reception will be in the city of Lago Agrio from where we will take the land transport, we will travel for approximately 2 hours towards the entrance of the Cuyabeno Reserve and upon reaching this point we will have a delicious box lunch.

Subsequently, our naturalist guide will provide information about the Reserve and important recommendations to begin navigating two hours in the Cuyabeno river towards Jamu Lodge.
During the canoe ride, you will get a first glimpse of the rainforest and different kind of birds such as caciques, orioles and the prehistoric bird Hoatzin; also we can see a
variety of monkeys and other animals typical of the forest in terms of time and weather conditions.

You will arrive at Jamu Lodge around 4:30 pm, and at that time the staff will be in charge of welcoming and showing the rooms to our passengers so you can relax.

After resting a little and recovering energy, we will leave the lodge for a moment and go to the Laguna Grande, where we can witness a beautiful sunset.

After this wonderful experience, you will return to the Lodge to enjoy dinner, so we would end our first day in the jungle, relaxing in a hammock or having a drink at the bar.
Day 2: PRIMARY FOREST EXPLORATION - SWIMMING INTO THE LAGOON
You will start the day with a rich breakfast and then a walk for approximately 3 to 4 hours through the primary forest, the guide will explain about a tropical forest, and medicinal plants; in addition, during this activity, we can observe large trees such as ceibo or small insects such as ants.

After this adventure, you will return to the lodge to enjoy lunch. You will have a moment to rest and, in the afternoon, we will go to see the beautiful butteries and swim in the lagoon, if we are lucky we will have the opportunity to see the beautiful pink dolphins and you will enjoy the amazing fall sun.

You will return to the lodge for dinner and then we will do a night activity focused on the search for alligators on the banks of the river.
Day 3: LOCAL COMMUNITY FAMILY VISIT - NIGHT WALK
After breakfast, we leave in a canoe downstream on a journey of approximately one hour to visit a family of the Tarapuy community where we will be involved in the preparation of a traditional cassava bread known in the area as Casabe. In addition, during the process, we can learn to use the materials and utensils of the jungle to make bread, in this activity we will occupy the whole day, returning to the Lodge at approximately two in the afternoon.

After enjoying lunch we can relax and rest; to end the day we will have a short walk through the primary forest focused on observing nocturnal insects, such as spiders, geckos or scorpions, and listening to the sounds of the night.
Day 4: BIRDWATCHING - QUILLA RIDE INTO THE AMAZON
On this day you will make a visit to the surroundings for bird watching for what we will transport in a native canoe, called "quilla"; we will also have another walk in the forest to continue marveling at the beauty of nature in this place.

For these activities we will have to paddle, thus having a better opportunity to observe more of the fauna and ora, we can see a great variety of different birds and monkeys; In addition, you will get a better idea of what a flooded forest looks like.

Because this activity lasts approximately 4-5 hours, we will take a box lunch with us to feed ourselves while we are living this experience.
Day 5: DEPARTURE TO LAGO AGRIO
On this last day of the tour, early in the morning before breakfast, we will have a bird-watching excursion that is optional and will depend a lot on the weather conditions; upon returning to the Lodge we will have a rich breakfast and then the transfer back to Lago Agrio.

The normal tour ends in the city of Lago Agrio at approximately 15 PM.

Travel Tips
WHAT TO PACK?
Life in the jungle is very informal. Comfortable and lightweight clothes are a must. Bring long pants, cotton shorts, long-sleeved T-shirts, sneakers, sandals, hat/cap, sunglasses, rain gear, insect repellent, sunscreen, flashlight with extra batteries, binoculars, reading material.

ITINERARY
May be subject to changes due to weather conditions or National Park Directives. The guide may deviate from the published itinerary for any reason he/she deems advisable.

TIPPING
Tipping to the staff is at the discretion of our guests. Tips for the guide are usually given in person.

CLIMATE
In the Amazon region, the climate is hot and humid with frequent rain showers. The drier months are from October to March. The temperature ranges from 19°C to 36°C throughout the year. Cuyabeno Lodges are usually at 250 m above sea level.

HEALTH
Immunizations are presently not required to visit this area of the Amazon jungle - it is advisable however to consult your doctor or physician before your trip. We recommend precautions against malaria and yellow fever. Strong insect repellent should be acquired before your arrival in the jungle.
How to get there?
Option 1
Travel by public bus o semi-private tourist bus: (the night before the tour).
Departure: 23:30 pm from Terminal Quitumbe (Quito) or ma meeting point.
The public transport company: Esmeraldas or Baños.
The tourist transport company: Ecuador Treasure.
Arrival: 7:00 am terrestrial Terminal Lago Agrio approx or 6.30 am to a meeting point in Lago Agrio.
Price public: $13 x person (subject to change)
Price tourist bus: $25 x person per way.

Option 2
Travel by public bus (the previous morning of the tour)
You may leave Quito in the morning to get to Lago Agrio in hours of the afternoon/evening, where you should sleep one night.
Estimated journey time: 7 hours approximately.
For the return from Lago Agrio to Quito, there are buses that leave every hour, all day.

Option 3
Travel by airplane:
Airline Tame: Quito - Lago Agrio / Flight 201 / 10:00 – 10:50 approx.
Airline Tame: Lago Agrio - Quito /Flight 201 / 17:00 – 18:00 approx.
